In 2020, Democrats Used Filibuster 327 Times; Republican Used it Only Once

by Eric Lendrum

As the debate regarding the future of the Senate filibuster heats up, a recent report has confirmed that the Democrats, who are now advocating for its abolition, utilized the procedural stalling tactic exponentially more times than the Republicans did over the course of 2020, as reported by Breitbart.

With the Senate evenly-divided at 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans, most legislation will not be able to pass without at least 60 votes in favor due to the filibuster. As such, Democrats – who technically maintain control with Vice President Kamala Harris able to serve as the tie-breaking vote – have begun advocating for eliminating the filibuster in order to rush through some of the most radical items on their agenda without any Republican support.

But a recent report by Fox News’ John Roberts revealed that in the year 2020, Democrats in the Senate used the filibuster to their advantage approximately 327 times while they were in the minority. Republicans, who controlled the upper chamber prior to the 2020 elections and the widespread voter fraud that took place that year, used the procedure only once.

Nevertheless, Joe Biden omitted this crucial fact during his first solo press conference last week, 65 days after he first took power. When asked about the filibuster, Biden baselessly described it as racist, and a “Jim Crow relic.” He also pointed out that over the course of 54 years from 1917 to 1971, there were only 58 motions to break a filibuster; in 2020, he claimed, “there were 5 times that many,” which he said was proof that the procedure was “being abused in a gigantic way.” But he failed to mention that the motions to break the filibuster were done by Republicans in response to Democrat-run filibusters, not vice-versa.
