McAuliffe Campaign Brings Out ‘Big Guns’ in Final Weeks

Gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, seeking his second non-consecutive term as Virginia’s Governor, has been campaigning with powerful Democrat Party allies during the final stretch of his campaign against Republican Glenn Youngkin.

President Joe Biden will campaign for McAuliffe this week in northern Virginia, a typical stronghold for Democrats. Biden previously stumped for McAuliffe on July 22.

In a more controversial move, Vice President Kamala Harris filmed a video in support of McAuliffe, which was played at hundreds of churches across Virginia, urging the congregants to vote for McAuliffe. Nonprofit organizations, including churches, are not allowed to engage in political activity, calling into question the legality of Harris’ video.

Saturday, former President Barack Obama traveled to Richmond where he, too, stumped for McAuliffe.

Notably, he waded into the murky waters of Virginia’s battle over Critical Race Theory (CRT), and transgender bathroom policies. Those issues have nagged McAuliffe’s campaign, especially over the past three weeks. News recently emerged that the man arrested in June at a Loudoun County School Board (LCSB) meeting was the father of a girl who was raped by a boy in a skirt in the bathroom of a county high school.

“We don’t have time to be wasted on these phony trumped-up culture wars, this fake outrage, the right-wing media’s pedals to juice their ratings,” Obama said.

Youngkin’s campaign seized the opportunity to knock McAuliffe for his political establishment bona fides.

“Forty year politician Terry McAuliffe doesn’t excite the Democratic party, so he’s called in other politicians to plead for votes,” Youngkin spokesman Macauley Porter told The Virginia Star. “Glenn Youngkin is winning on his message of being an outsider running against politics as usual, so it’s no surprise that desperation has set in for the ruling-class that sees their power slipping away.”

McAuliffe’s campaign did not return a comment request.
