Poll: Most Voters Oppose Efforts to Ban Gas-Powered Vehicles

A new poll conducted by the Convention of States and the Trafalgar Group found that an overwhelming plurality of voters do not support measures to ban gas-powered vehicles, even though Joe Biden has voiced his support for such laws.

As reported by The Daily Caller, the poll was conducted between September 17 and 20, with a sample size of 1,079 likely voters in the upcoming midterm elections. The poll asked its respondents the question of “What do you believe is most likely to provide America with reliable, long-term energy independence?”

With a margin of error of 2.9 percent, over 40 percent of the poll’s respondents said that “increasing domestic oil and gas production” is the best solution. By contrast, just 25.5 percent answered with “focus new energy investments on renewables like solar and wind.” Only 1.4 percent of voters said to “eliminate gas-powered vehicles and move to electric.”

The poll found that among Democratic respondents, only 3 percent voiced support for banning gas-powered cars. Among Republican voters, 0 percent of respondents supported this option.

Laws to ban gas-powered cars are already being implemented in the state of California, which is seeking to phase out all gas vehicles in the state over the next few years. The plan has drawn widespread criticism for its lack of feasibility, with the forced transition leading to an energy crisis in the state that has seen the statewide power grid come to the brink of collapse.
