Prince William County Supervisor Jeanine Lawson Running for Virginia’s 10th District

Prince William Supervisor Jeanine Lawson is running for the GOP nomination for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. Lawson joins four other candidates for the nomination; the winner will challenge incumbent Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-Virginia-10.)

“On the Board of Supervisors, I’ve fought for lower taxes, limited government, and have a proven record of winning in deep blue northern Virginia,” Lawson said in a Facebook statement Thursday.

Lawson was elected to the Board in 2014 and has been re-elected twice, according to her bio. During her campaign and in the years since, she’s fought to block expanded development in Prince William’s Rural Crescent. She was one of three Republican supervisors who walked out of a Board meeting in December after a shouting match over unconscious bias training.

According to Ballotpedia, the other candidates for the GOP nomination are Monica Carpio, Paul Lott, Clay Percle, and Loudoun County School Board Member John Beatty.

Incumbent Wexton was elected to the Virginia Senate in 2014, and in 2018, she defeated Republican incumbent Barbara Comstock as part of the blue wave that swept the House of Representatives. According to the Virginia Public Access Project, Wexton won with 56.1 percent of the votes; Comstock took 43.7 percent. In 2020, Wexton kept her seat, beating GOP challenger Aliscia Andrews, 56.5 percent to 43.4 percent.

This year, Wexton was appointed to the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

Republicans are hoping the same mid-term backlash to the sitting president that caused 2018 losses will lead to a 2022 red wave in the House.

“This year, we need to elect Glenn Youngkin, the Republican ticket, and take back the Commonwealth,” Lawson said in her Facebook announcement. “Next year, we need to take back Congress from Pelosi and The Squad. I’m a proven conservative with a record of success. I’m ready to take on Jennifer Wexton and win back the 10th.”
