Seven Capitol Police Officers Sue Trump, Claiming He is Responsible for January 6

Seven Capitol Police officers filed a lawsuit on Thursday against President Donald Trump, claiming with no evidence that the president conspired with right-wing activists to organize the peaceful protests that took place at the Capitol on January 6th, according to Politico.

The lawsuit was filed with the U.S. District Court in Washington D.C., by the group Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law; the suit claims that President Trump’s rhetoric leading up to January 6th, in which he called out widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election that may have ultimately swung the election results away from him and in favor of Joe Biden, violated the Ku Klux Klan Act.

“Because of Defendants’ actions,” the lawsuit baselessly claims, “Plaintiffs were violently assaulted, spat on, tear-gassed, bear-sprayed, subject to racial slurs and epithets, and put in fear for their lives. Plaintiffs’ injuries, which Defendants caused, persist to this day.” The suit does not list any specific examples of any such “persisting” injuries, and no members of the Capitol Police were killed as a result of the events of that day.

Also named in the lawsuit is longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone, the group “Stop the Steal,” which organized the peaceful protest that day, and several other right-wing groups that have frequently defended American citizens from far-left domestic terrorists in the streets, such as the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys.

There have been several such lawsuits filed against President Trump and his associates over the protests on January 6th, even after the FBI confirmed that it had found little to no evidence that the entry into the Capitol was a pre-planned action. None of the hundreds of protesters who have since been arrested have been charged with any violent crimes such as terrorism, insurrection, or assault, and instead simply face charges of trespassing or disrupting an official proceeding.
