Some Virginia Newsmakers Share Their New Year’s Resolutions

A New Year, a new General Assembly session, a new state election, a new vaccine – The Virginia Star is looking forward to the stories of 2021. We asked a few newsmakers what their resolutions for 2021 are.

Here’s what they said:

Candidate for Lieutenant Governor Lance Allen

“My New Year’s resolution is to meet someone new every week. There are so many wonderful people and my campaign promise has been to make sure I travel to every county across the Commonwealth — I hope, personally, I’m able to leave every county with a new friend!”

Gubernatorial Candidate Delegate Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights)

“My New Year’s resolution is to Save Virginia because I’ve seen just how bad things can get under Democrat control… and I already checked ‘losing weight’ off my list this year — so Julie said I could go with ‘Save Virginia’ as my resolution.”

Richmond Activist Mike Dickinson

“My New Year’s Resolution reflects my favorite show on Netflix: Cobra Kai. In 2021 I am going to live by the words of strike first, strike hard, and show no mercy — to Democrats and the people enabling those ruining this great country!”

Virginia Star Publisher John Fredericks

“My New Year’s resolution is to go the entire month of January without one time on the air saying how much I hate conventions. They’ve ripped the heart and soul out of the Republican Party of Virginia and the State Central Committee keeps having them in order to manipulate results, and it keeps driving a stake into the heart of the party. It keeps driving the heart of the party further and further into the grave.”

Senator Emmett Hanger (R-Augusta)

“My New Year’s resolutions are generally a list of goals and aspirations in various categories and number in the dozens. For a broad resolution for 2021 I would say — ‘I resolve to be a better and more effective witness for Christ, to do God’s will in my life, and to become the 74th Governor of Virginia, if those goals are not in conflict.’ Why — I want everyone to experience joy in their heart, no matter their circumstance, and be a little nicer and I want Virginia to become a leader in the nation again and get over this crazy notion that we have to be divided into liberal and conservative extremism.”

Senator Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach)

“Happy New Year and welcome 2021! It has been a slower and quieter holiday than usual and I am looking forward to a fresh start and taking on the new challenges and fun that the new year will bring! My resolutions for 2021 are to:
– Tune my old piano and get back to playing it.
– Train for and run another half marathon.
– Be the best mom/wife that I can be.
– Serve my community and country in the best capacity I can to help make a difference and help get Virginia back on track!
– Get more sleep!
– Bake more cookies!”

Loudoun County School Watchdog Julie Sisson

“To stay off of social media as much as possible. To keep blood pressure down and my sanity up.”
