A Chinese national was arrested after driving onto a Marine Corps base in California and refusing to leave, U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed.

Border Patrol agents confirmed to a local news outlet that the Chinese national (pictured above) was arrested Wednesday after entering onto the base in Twentynine Palms.

Agents also confirmed that the man was not in the United States legally.

“His purpose & intent behind his actions are still being investigated,” USBP Chief Patrol Agent Gregory K. Bovino wrote on the social media platform, X.

After his arrest, he was taken in for more processing.

According to the Daily Mail, there have been over 100 instances of Chinese nationals infiltrating military bases in the U.S. over the past few years.

“DHS continues to enforce United States immigration laws, expanding lawful pathways while strengthening enforcement consequences for those who cross our border unlawfully,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement to News Channel 3.
