Speaker Gilbert, Senator McDougle to Serve Again on Republican Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Committee

Senator Ryan McDougle (R-Hanover) and Speaker of the House of Delegates Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) will again serve on the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC) Executive Committee. Gilbert is also in a new role at the RLCC as finance chair.

“National Democrats proved in 2021 that they are willing to spend whatever it takes to win state-level races so they can turn the entire country into a socialist utopia,” Gilbert said in a RLCC release Wednesday. “Despite that obstacle, Republicans were able to flip the House of Delegates in the Commonwealth of Virginia while making significant gains in other liberal strongholds like New Jersey. I am excited to continue working with this incredible organization and to act as a resource for my colleagues trying to replicate the success we had in 2021.”

The RLCC is a national organization aimed at electing Republicans to state legislatures. It is under the umbrella of the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), which spent about $3 million in Virginia during the 2021 campaign, according to The Virginia Public Access Project. After the election, the RSLC said its resources and strategy were important for GOP House wins, and provide a roadmap for future campaigns.

“We supported the right candidates, developed the right messages, and executed the right strategies to maximize the advantages of the political environment and overcome a significant spending advantage that was driven by national liberals,” an RSLC release said.

A Republican Party of Virginia spokesperson told The Virginia Star in a statement, “These organizations were critical in helping us flip the House of Delegates and it is exciting that we have members in both the House and Senate on its leadership team. Through their positions on the committee, Speaker Gilbert and Senator McDougle will help other Republicans across the country raise money and serve as resources for them on how to replicate the success we had here in November running on an agenda to lower costs for hardworking families, empower parents on education, and make our streets safer.”
