Virginia U.S. Rep. Bob Good Formally Endorses Donald Trump for President

Representative Bob Good (R-VA-05) formally endorsed former President Donald Trump in his third bid for the White House in his Monday appearance on The John Fredericks Show after previously endorsing Governor Ron DeSantis last May.

Good told host John Fredericks, the publisher of The Virginia Star, that “it’s time for the entire Republican party to unite” behind former President Donald Trump, who he added is “obviously our imminent nominee.”

“Most of us recognize he is the best president of our lifetime. You wonder how could it even be close, how any reasonable person who likes this country, anybody who cares about this country, could vote for Joe Biden and wouldn’t vote for President Trump.” Good questioned, “Is anybody not worse off than they were two years ago? Is anybody, aside from maybe a few fat cats in Washington and New York maybe, not doing worse?”

Good, who endorsed DeSantis before the Florida governor formally announced his campaign, thanked the governor and said there were always two “acceptable” Republican candidates in the race.

“It’s time, I’m thankful that Governor DeSantis recognized the inevitability, I’m thankful that he went ahead endorsed President Trump.”

Explaining his decision to switch his endorsement from DeSantis to Trump, Good explained, “I’ve always thought there’s only two viable candidates, two acceptable candidates in the race. President Trump has emerged with strong support from Republicans across the country, especially in Iowa.”

He then referenced the reports indicating former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is reportedly receiving an electoral boost from Democrats who change their party affiliation to vote in Republican primaries or caucuses. Good explained, “it looks like Governor Haley is going to have Democrats voting for her” in New Hampshire, “just like she did in Iowa.”

“President Trump is going to be the nominee,” Good insisted.

The Virginia Republican’s endorsement came only days after Trump campaign co-manager Chris LaCivita said last week that Good “won’t be electable when we get done with him” in reference to the congressman’s prior endorsement of DeSantis.

Undercover video, which was edited prior to its release, also appeared to show Good questioning Trump’s conservative credentials and doubting his ability to win against President Joe Biden after stressing that he would not make such remarks in public.

Good’s prior endorsement of DeSantis was raised by State Senator John McGuire (R-Goochland), who launched a primary campaign against Good after securing his election to the Virginia Senate last November.

Speaking to Fredericks about his primary challenger, Good said McGuire “continues to reveal who and what he is,” and noted that he’s competed in five elections in two years.

“This a perpetual candidate in search of a race,” Good argued, adding that “most people recognize he will do or say anything to try to advance his political career, reach for the next rung on the ladder.”
