Rep. Eric Swalwell Calls Parent Protestors ‘Looney Carnival Barkers’

A California congressman is facing backlash for a series of tweets slamming unvaccinated Americans and parents who choose not to vaccinate their children.

“I’m losing my Covid patience [thread]. I’ve tried to reason with the unvaxxed. I’ve directed some to medical pros. I don’t judge but hear them out and steer them to facts. The unvaxxed love to say it’s about choice. But you know who doesn’t have a choice? My 3 kids under 5,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA-15)  said on Twitter.

“Blah blah blah you have a right to not get vaxxed. Fine. Then business and government have a right to tell you that you’re not welcome to patronize or you can’t get on a plane. Because what right do you think you have to expose my kids to your Covid?” he continued. As parents, let’s own the outrage. The looney carnival barkers at the school board meetings DO NOT reflect where most parents are. Your unvaxxed status is creating new variants. So get your damn shot. Or, stay inside your house. But don’t mess with my kids.”

Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that death from COVID-19 in children is exceedingly rare. The CDC has also admitted that vaccinations do not stop a vaccinated person from contracting or spreading the virus.

Those facts eluded the congressman, who faced immediate criticism from commentators.

“Swalwell is noble for telling you not to mess with his kids, but if you show up at a school board meeting to say the same thing? You’re a looney carnival barker,” RedState’s Editor-at-Large Kira Davis observed.

“Fact-check: The new variant didn’t come from a suburban school board meeting,” Newsbusters Deputy Managing Editor Nicholas Fondacaro said.

Swalwell, who was a short-lived candidate for president in 2020, is no stranger to causing outrage on Twitter.

He once noted that “[t]he government has nukes” in response to Second Amendment activist Joe Biggs saying more gun control could lead to a civil war, implying that the government would use nuclear weapons on its citizens.

The battle over suburban parents continues to rage on after Virginia’s parents defied the state’s radical left-wing indoctrination of their children via Critical Race Theory (CRT) and mask mandates throughout the summer.

Some credit those parents for pushing Republican Governor-Elect Glenn Youngkin over the finish line against his Democrat opponent in Virginia’s high-profile gubernatorial race.

The issue of parental rights figures to be a contentious one in 2022.

Swalwell’s office did not return a comment request about whether the congressman was worried about further alienating parents for the Democrat Party with his comments.
