Welcome to the Saturday edition of our daily Virginia Trump campaign update! We will provide our readers with daily updates on the Trump Virginia campaign from today to November 3 (and after…if need be!).
It’s officially 45 days until the election on November 3 – and 10 days until President Trump and Joe Biden square off in the first presidential debate.
President Trump has taken his first lead in recent Rasmussen polling. According to this week’s White House Watch, the president has gained a one-point advantage in the race – the first time that has happened. It was noted earlier this week in another Trumpdate that the race had tightened. Much like Democrats and the Left did in 2016 with Hillary Clinton, pollsters hadn’t given the president much of a shot at winning re-election this year against Biden.
Even in Virginia, a new poll released by VCU shows the former vice president with a seemingly lengthy advantage. But if you dig into the data, you’ll see that there were more who identified as Democrat or independent voters surveyed than those who identify as Republican. So does that mean the Trump re-election team and the Republican Party can just write off the Commonwealth as a loss and focus its sights on other battleground states like Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania?
According to Republican National Committee co-chairman Tommy Hicks, don’t just assume Biden will run away with Virginia’s electoral college votes.
“Virginia is very much in play for the president,” Hicks told The Virginia Star on Friday. “We’re trending in the right direction, and people know what’s at stake. On one side you have law and order, on the other side you have socialism, divisiveness and chaos.”
Hicks was in Virginia Beach Friday at an event that kicked off early voting for the 2020 election. He appeared alongside Scott Taylor, who is running against Democrat incumbent Elaine Luria for the House of Representatives seat for Virginia’s 2nd District.
Hicks noted he was impressed with the excitement voters and supporters showed on Friday.
“We’ve seen a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for both the president and Scott Taylor,” he said. “We’re doing all we can to make sure Virginia does its part in helping President Trump win re-election, as well as sending Scott Taylor back to Congress.”
Trump Car Parade Today
If you live in Northern Virginia or happen to find yourself around Manassas on Saturday, Team Trump Virginia will be putting on a Trump car parade starting at Osbourn Park High School. Vehicles can start lining up at 10:15 a.m. Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles with signs and messages supporting the president.
Hicks will give remarks at 10:30 a.m. prior to the parade.
On Sunday, volunteers from Team Trump Virginia will be going door to door connecting with voters.
