Actor Alec Baldwin faces two involuntary manslaughter charges for the fatal 2021 shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico film set of “Rust,” prosecutors announced Thursday.
First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, a Santa Fe Democrat, said that by the end of the month, she will charge both Baldwin and “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed with two charges of involuntary manslaughter related to the incident.
Assistant director David Halls signed a plea agreement to the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon, the prosecutor said.
Before the announcement, Heather Brewer, a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, said Wednesday: “Regardless of the District Attorney’s decision, the announcement will be a solemn occasion, made in a manner keeping with the office’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the judicial process and respecting the victim’s family.”
Baldwin settled with Hutchins’ family one year after she was fatally shot in October 2021. The actor had denied pulling the gun’s trigger, but an FBI report found the firearm could not have gone off without the trigger being pulled.Â
