Keith Ellison accuser Karen Monahan said the Democratic Party would sell its “soul for power” after news broke Monday that its investigation into the claims against Ellison concluded in his favor.
The Associated Press obtained a draft report of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party’s investigation, which concludes that Monahan’s domestic-abuse allegations against Ellison are “unsubstantiated.” The conclusion was reached based on an alleged video of the incident that Monahan claims to possess but has so far refused to hand over out of embarrassment.
“She has thus repeatedly placed the existence of the video front and center to her allegations, but then has refused to disclose it,” the DFL’s report states.
In response, Monahan compiled a list of all the evidence she has provided, including “different medical records from 2017,” “therapy notes,” a “summary” from her therapist, and “several text messages” between her and Ellison “discussing the video, lies, [and] abuse.”
“I didn’t expect to be heard, believed, or validated. By the way, my attorney nor I have seen the report. It was leaked to the AP. There is so much to be revealed when this is all over. Let’s continue to let things unfold,” she tweeted.

After the report was released, DFL Chairman Ken Martin said his party would be asking “law enforcement authorities to review the information as a final step in the process.”
“We believe asking for the initial investigation was the right thing to do, and we still do,” Martin told MPR News. “We also believe that a final review by law enforcement authorities who routinely make decisions about allegations such as these, will offer the greatest assurance that the claims were looked into in a fair, impartial, and thorough manner.”
