With just days to go before the midterm elections, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will spend the weekend campaigning for Democratic colleagues in Iowa.
Such visits to the state, especially during an important reelection campaign, are often consider potential presidential feelers. Michael Avenatti, for instaNewnce, has made multiple visits to the state to see “if it makes any sense” for him “to consider this.”
Both Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) have visited the state this month, and are frequently listed alongside Klobuchar as potential 2020 presidential candidates. Klobuchar’s visit to Iowa comes just days before the Nov. 6 midterms, but she insists she is “focused” on Minnesota.
“Sen. Klobuchar is in Des Moines, Iowa this weekend. During the debate she said she is ‘focused’ on Minnesota. Why is she leaving the state 12 days before the election?” Republican challenger Jim Newberger wrote on Facebook, asking voters if they want “to vote for a candidate that has one foot into the 2020 presidential arena.”
During Sunday night’s debate, Klobuchar was asked whether she would promise to serve her full six-year term, but simply responded by stating that she’s “focused on Minnesota.”
“I think everyone knows that. I visit all 87 counties every single year, and that’s where I get my best ideas,” she continued. When pressed on the matter, she said that she plans to “keep representing Minnesota.”
During her weekend visit to Iowa, Klobuchar will campaign with Democrat Amber Gustafson, who is running against State Sen. Jach Whitver (R-Knoxville), according to The Des Moines Register.
“We are pleased to announce that U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar will be joining us for our canvass kick off,” the Polk County Democrats announced, noting that Klobuchar will join Gustafson for door-knocking in her district.
