A Virginia Beach couple has been sentenced to years in prison for their $31.8 million counterfeit coupon fraud scheme, the U.S. Eastern District of Virginia Attorney’s Office (USAO-EDVA) announced Tuesday.
“These two defendants have been sentenced and held accountable for operating one of the largest coupon fraud schemes ever discovered in the United States, resulting in over $31 million in losses to victims across the country,” USAO-EDVA Acting U.S. Attorney Raj Parekh said.

President Joe Biden has announced his nominees for United States Attorney for the Western and Eastern Districts of Virginia. Former Chesapeake doctor Javaid Perwaiz has been sentenced to 59 years in prison on 52 counts of health care fraud and other charges. Perwaiz was convicted of performing unnecessary procedures including hysterectomies and early induced labor as part of an insurance fraud scheme from 2010 to 2019.

A senior NASA employee has plead guilty to bank fraud after applying for over $350,000 in COVID-19-related relief. On Monday, NASA Senior Executive Service employee Andrew Tezna pleaded guilty to submitting fraudulent applications for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, Economic Injury Disaster loans, and COVID-19 unemployment benefits for his retired mother-in-law.
