Attorney General Jason Miyares has appointed Chesterfield County Supervisor Leslie Haley as his Deputy Attorney General for Government Operations and Transactions. Haley is one of several candidates who lost the GOP nomination for attorney general to Miyares in 2021.
A Friday press release announced that Haley has left her Chesterfield role and will start in Miyares’ office Monday.
“Attorney General Miyares has established a top-notch team of brilliant lawyers and public servants who are fighting for Virginians every day,” Haley said in the release. “I am so honored that he has asked me to join his administration and for the opportunity to continue serving my home in a larger capacity at the Office of the Attorney General.
Haley was first elected as supervisor in 2015, and has served stints as board chair and vice chair. Miyares’ release lists Haley’s years of experience as a lawyer and her roles at the Virginia State Bar and Philip Morris, USA.
The Chesterfield County announcement of Haley’s departure lists her work in local schools, including on the PTA.
Haley said in that release, “When I think back to how I got started, running for the Board of Supervisors wasn’t at all on my bucket list. I had always been engaged with schools, the community and my neighborhood. I never really thought that work would take me down this path, but it has been truly humbling to have the citizens’ support to represent them on this board for two terms.”
Miyares said in his release, “I first met Leslie on the campaign trail over a year ago and I have enjoyed getting to know her. I have a deep respect for her dedication to ethics, the rule of law and serving Virginians. She is a committed public servant, and I am confident she will work tirelessly for the Commonwealth.”
