Donald Trump, Jr. to Campaign in Minnesota on Monday

Donald Trump, Jr. is set to headline a fundraiser for the Republican Party of Minnesota.

The president’s eldest son will visit Minnesota on Monday, September 24,  with former Fox News host and America First PAC Vice Chairwoman Kimberly Guilfoyle in an effort to rally the Republican base before the state’s highly-competitive midterms.

“We are honored and thrilled to have both Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly in Minnesota next week. Both are important leaders in our party and the visit will have an added positive impact on behalf of our candidates and opportunities this November,” Republican Party of Minnesota Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan said in a press release, noting that the visit marks yet another effort on behalf of the Trump White House to win over Minnesota voters.

“It’s clear that the White House realizes how important Minnesota is during the midterm—and we are confident in our strategy and ability to help Republicans keep majorities in both the United States House and Senate,” Carnahan added.

The visit will come on the heels of a new Star Tribune and MPR News poll that shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating slipping among Minnesotans. According to the poll, 56 percent disapprove of Trump’s job performance, while 39 percent approve—a 6-point decrease since January.

Trump’s Minnesota base, however, continues to approve of his performance, with 85 percent of respondents who voted for Trump in 2016 expressing approval, compared to 95 percent of voters who went for Hillary Clinton in 2016 disapproving.

Trump is polling well in northern Minnesota, where mining is a key issue, with 55 percent of respondents in the region approving of Trump’s handling of the economy. 48 percent of all Minnesotans expressed approval of Trump’s economy.

He is, however, struggling to build trust among Minnesota voters, 59 percent of whom think the president doesn’t “generally speak the truth.”

The Sept. 24 visit to the state is part of a larger campaign effort by Donald Trump, Jr. and Guilfoyle, who are set to visit four states in three days.
