Republicans are targeting Nevada incumbent U.S. Representative Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) for defeat.
The National Republican Congressional Committee announced that Nevada’s 4th Congressional District is on its target list for a Republican pickup.
Horsford has represented NV-4 since 2019 and previously served as the U.S. representative for NV-4 from 2013 to 2015. He was defeated by now-former U.S. Rep. Cresent Hardy in 2014 and returned the favor in 2018, defeating Hardy in that election.
As of March 2022, Horsford has been a reliable vote for the Biden agenda, voting in line with Biden’s position 100 percent of the time.
As of the December 31, 2021 deadline, FEC records show that Horsford had raised $1,860,608.03 for reelection and had $1,678,907.93 cash on hand in the bank. The next financial report will be released in mid-April.
The leading Republican challenger in the fundraising race is businessman Sam Peters. Peters has raised $502,190.50 and his December 31, 2021 cash-on-hand total was $229,450.00. Peters ran in the 2020 NV-4 GOP nomination battle, coming in a close second.
Peters’ website says, “Sam is a U.S. Air Force Major (Retired), a business owner, and family man. He ran for Congress in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District in 2020. After coming up just short in the crowded Republican Primary Election, he founded the Law Enforcement Loyalty PAC, a Nevada State Registered Political Action Committee that supports Pro-Law Enforcement candidates and denounces the defund the police movement. Sam also guest hosted the Wayne Allyn Root morning show twice weekly for five months on conservative talk radio.”
His website also highlights his military service.
“Sam spent more than 20 years serving in the U.S. Air Force, first as an enlisted K9 Handler and later as a Support Officer. His service included combat support in Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and tours in Panama and Korea. He retired in 2013 after earning a Bronze Star for his efforts in Afghanistan. During Sam’s military career, he was consistently ranked #1 among his highly efficient and competent peers,” Peters’ website says.
Redistricting removed some Republican voters from Nevada’s 4th Congressional District. Prior to redistricting, Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight gave the district a R+1 partisan rating. It now gives the district a D+5 rating.
The Cook Political Report gives the race for the seat a “Lean Democrat” rating.
