TRUMPDATE: Latest from the Team Trump Virginia Campaign for October 15

Welcome to the Thursday edition of our daily Virginia Trump campaign update! We will provide our readers with daily updates on the Trump Virginia campaign from today to November 3 (and after…if need be!).

It’s officially 19 days until the election on November 3 – and 16 days until early voting in Virginia closes. President Trump meets Joe Biden in the final presidential debate one week from today.

After a cut cable led to an outage of the Virginia voter registration site on Tuesday, Judge John A. Gibney Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia extended the deadline to register to vote to tonight at 11:59 p.m. A lawsuit was filed Tuesday with the federal court on behalf of three voter rights groups seeking to have the deadline extended.

Even though President Trump is free of COVID-19, the Commission on Presidential Debates canceled the second presidential debate originally scheduled for tonight. So now both the president and Democrat nominee Joe Biden will be holding dueling town hall events tonight.

Trump will appear on NBC in a one-hour event anchored by Savannah Guthrie. Biden will appear on ABC in an event hosted by George Stephanopoulos. NBC will air Trump’s town hall on MSNBC and CNBC, and stream online. ABC will stream Biden’s town hall online. Trump’s town hall will take place outdoors at the Pérez Art Museum in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines.

The big thing to note about these events is that while the president will most assuredly face a barrage of tough questions from a more left-leaning crowd and host, Joe Biden will likely field softball questions from a left-leaning Stephanopoulos and from people who will already be casting their vote for Biden and running mate Kamala Harris.

Trump has proven that he’s plenty capable of putting himself in the line of fire and doing interviews with news outlets that lean left. Meanwhile you probably can’t remember the last time Joe Biden sat down with a conservative or Republican-supporting interviewer.

Even though there’s no debate, at the end of the night it will likely be Joe Biden the media fawns over. They’ll claim Biden was pressed on certain issues and that Stephanopoulos didn’t give him anything easy, but when Guthrie presses the president to disavow white supremacy or coax an answer she wants to hear, the media will continue to paint President Trump as a bully or someone who dances around questions.

Trump will be speaking at a rally today at the Greenville Airport. Doors open at 10 a.m., and the rally begins at 1 p.m. The Virginia Star will have full coverage.
