TRUMPDATE: Latest from the Team Trump Virginia Campaign for September 26

Welcome to the Saturday edition of our daily Virginia Trump campaign update! We will provide our readers with daily updates on the Trump Virginia campaign from today to November 3 (and after…if need be!).

It’s officially 38 days until the election on November 3 – and three days until President Trump and Joe Biden square off in the first presidential debate.

President Trump and Air Force One landed on the tarmac at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport on Friday night to an ovation from thousands of supporters. Vice President Mike Pence also appeared on stage with the president, briefly waving to the crowd.

The president encouraged people to vote for himself and GOP candidates in the upcoming election, especially with early voting ongoing across the Commonwealth, and expressed his optimism in winning Virginia’s electoral college votes in November.

“A vote for Republicans is a vote for safe communities, great jobs and a limitless future for all Americans,” Trump told the crowd. “I think we’re going to win bigger than anyone understands.”

Trump teased the announcement of his Supreme Court nomination coming later today from the White House, with the crowd chanting “Fill that seat” in support. Reports Friday indicate appellate judge Amy Coney Barrett, who serves on the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, is going to be the president’s pick.

“Going into the election with the biggest of all victories,” President Trump said referring to the successful confirmation of a new justice. “They say the biggest thing you can do is the appointment of judges, but especially the appointment of Supreme Court justices. That’s the single-biggest thing a president can do, because it sets the tone of the country for 40 years, 50 years, a long time.”

Trump attacked Governor Ralph Northam and the Democrat-controlled General Assembly for trying to restrict Second Amendment rights, saying that a Biden victory would mean the right to own a firearm could go away completely.

“If I’m not here, your Second Amendment is gone,” he said. “Sleepy Joe Biden endorsed your governor, so that means he endorsed the policy of your governor, so he endorsed breaking up your Second Amendment. So it will either be totally broken up or wiped out.”

But overall the president gave a rousing speech that drove home the accomplishments of his administration in his first term, and painted a stark contrast between his plans for a second term and the plans for a Biden presidency.

“We’ve achieved more in 47 months than Joe Biden has achieved in 47 years,” Trump said. “Biden without even knowing it is pushing the most far-left platform in history. The Biden plan would destroy Social Security and destroy protections for people with preexisting conditions.”
