Biden Admin Extends Student Loan Payment Pause Again

The Biden administration extended the student loan repayment pause to until the end of June 2023 while the administration’s student loan forgiveness plan is tied up in court, according to a Tuesday press release from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE).

Under the extension, loans do not need to be paid until 60 days after June 30, 2023, or whenever “litigation is resolved,” according to the DOE press release. The extension of the repayment pause comes as the Department of Justice (DOJ) urges the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court’s ruling which blocked the student loan forgiveness plan.

Federal Judge Rules Biden Admin’s LGBTQ Employee Protections Go Too Far

A federal judge in Texas ruled that the Biden administration overstepped in issuing protections for LGBTQ employees by allowing them to use bathrooms based on their gender identity.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released guidance in 2021 aiming to protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination in the workplace, allowing them to use bathrooms and pronouns that correspond with their gender identity. U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Texas Matthew Kacsmaryk ruled these protections went too far and that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 bars the LGBTQ community from discriminatory hiring practices “but not necessarily all correlated conduct,” including bathroom and pronoun use.

Business Organizations Urge Biden Administration to Boost Domestic Energy Production

Business leaders across the country have joined together to call on the Biden administration to boost domestic energy production and to abandon a proposal to ban new offshore lease sales.

More than 200 local chambers of commerce in 47 states and 14 national associations penned a letter to President Joe Biden to urge him “to strengthen our energy security by removing impediments to greater domestic energy production.”

Epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff, Ph.D. told attendees at Hillsdale College’s Blake Center for Faith and Freedom in Connecticut Thursday evening that government health agencies that forced lockdowns and mass vaccinations to manage the COVID-19 pandemic have thrown the basic principles of public health “out the window.”

Swedish native Kulldorff, who is on leave from Harvard University and is a founding fellow of Hillsdale’s Academy for Science and Freedom, is also a co-author of the Great Barrington Declaration, a document published in October 2020 that has since been translated into 44 languages and signed by nearly one million scientists, physicians, and citizens.
